| General note | The second edition of Surveying and Levelling is a comprehensive textbook that covers all aspects of the subject that are generally dealt with in two successive semesters in most universities. The book includes discussion on the most modern techniques in surveying. The book is a well-balanced mix of basic and advanced surveying techniques. It elaborates upon chain surveying, compass surveying, plane tabling, theodolite surveying using conventional instruments, curve surveying, tacheometry, trigonometrical levelling, triangulation, photogrammetry, hydrographic surveying, and astronomical surveying. It also discusses the calculation of areas and volumes using survey data and the working of instruments such as automatic levels, digital instruments, electronic theodolites, and total stations.
