500 _aThe Small Scale sector has emerged as a dynamic and vibrant sector of Indian economy. The socio-economic transformation of India cannot be achieved without paying adequate attention to the development of this labour intensive and capital sparing sector. In fact small scale industries have to play major role in countries like India where the capital formation is very low, and the growth of population is very high. Realising the importance of this small scale sector the Government of India has taken several measures for the growth and development small scale sector since independence. The allocations made in Five-year Plans, the policy measures taken in industrial statements and setting up of various national level and state level institutions show the interest of the Government in supporting the development of small scale sector. Inspite of various measures taken by the Government, the small scale sector in the country have been faced with many problems for various reasons. In the light of this background the present study has been taken up to identify the problem area of this sector and ther by to suggest appropriate measures in order to resolve the problems faced by them. The study has been divided into 8 chapters. The book is sufficiently detailed about the role, development, institutional set-up and problems of small scale sector in the Indian economy and is supported by a large number of tables, maps diagrams and appendices.
